Natural Awakenings South Jersey

Four-Week Trauma Sensitive Yoga Class

The Sanctuary for Yoga will offer a gentle four-week Trauma Sensitive yoga series, beginning at 4:30 p.m. on September 26. The hour-long class will run every Wednesday through October 17.

Led by Lori Volpi, an experienced registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance who is certified to teach trauma sensitive yoga, the series is open to anyone wishing to cultivate the mind-body connection in a safe and nurturing environment.

It does not matter if participants consider themselves trauma survivors or have had prior movement experience. Trauma can be described as a distressing experience that overwhelms our capacity to cope. It can include an accident, surgery, a divorce, the loss of a loved one, domestic violence or many other significant life events.

At least 70 percent of adults in the United States have experienced at least one traumatic event. Trauma experts know that the residue from overwhelming events can dysregulate our system, and that trauma sensitive yoga can play a significant role in mediating the chaos in our system.

This Trauma Sensitive Yoga Series will provide opportunities to explore movement, breath work and mindfulness as means to balance the nervous system, become empowered to make choices based on what is right for you and work within your capacity to strengthen and stretch muscles. No hands-on adjustments will be given. To create more ease for those uncomfortable in groups, participants will not be expected to interact with others.

Cost: $60/4-week Series. Location: 43 S. Main St., Medford, NJ. For additional information or to
