The Center for Living and The Zen Den on Main, in Medford, will host their annual Day of the Dead Celebration from 4 to 8 p.m.

on November 2 with workshops and offerings that honor this Mexican tradition. Guests will learn about its history, participate in ceremony and celebrate remembrance in community. 

With roots tracing back to Indigenous Aztec rituals, Day of the Dead blends ancient customs with Catholic All Saints’ Day. Families create altars, or ofrendas, adorned with candles, marigolds, photos and favorite foods (or items) of departed loved ones, welcoming their spirits for a joyful reunion. Skulls made of sugar, papel picado banners and the scent of copal incense all symbolize the cycle of life and death.

Rather than mourning, the Day of the Dead celebration honors life, love and memory. It invites people to keep connections alive, share stories and honor the legacies of those that have passed, embracing death as part of life’s natural rhythm.
