The virtual webinar Why We Give: A Celebration of SJ Women Who Give will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on October 23. Why We Give is a gathering of South Jersey women’s organizations that have philanthropy and volunteerism at the heart of their mission. This is a partnership of diverse local groups that include Impact100 South Jersey, Moms Demand Action, the Jewish Community Foundation, the India Temple Association, Continental Societies SJ Chapter, Jewish Family & Children’s Services and Community Foundation of South Jersey. 

Keynoter Dr. Debra Mesch, of the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and Women’s Philanthropy Institute at Indiana University, will talk about the powerful impact of women’s movements and ways women and men’s giving differ. Two panels, Why We Give and How We Give, will showcase a diverse mix of local women’s giving initiatives, sororities, social giving groups and foundations.

“One way to bridge the diversity and inclusion gap is to understand the various ways communities of women are already working to strengthen South Jersey,” says Kyle Ruffin, chair of the event. “Unfortunately, these communities work in silos and don’t know the others exist.  Why We Give is designed to introduce the groups and open doors to the kind of collaboration that yields greater impact.”
