Natural Awakenings South Jersey

Time to Embrace Alternative Health Care?

May 02, 2018 10:02AM ● By By Michelle Vacanti

The primary theme this month explores Natural and Personalized Medicine. In an era where healthcare costs may quickly bankrupt the entire national budget, there is an urgency to take an honest look at the state of our national health and the deeply embedded systems that perpetuate chronic illnesses.

The U. S. Department of Defense has declared chronic disease as an “existential threat” to America. The CDC reports that more than 100 million Americans have diabetes or its precursor. Take a moment to think of these staggering facts.

Arguably one of the biggest challenges we face today is chronic disease, and conventional medicine is failing to effectively address it. There has never been a better time to embrace a different paradigm. We need a better system, one that addresses the underlying causes of medical conditions as opposed to treating and/or masking symptoms.

I have said it before: South Jersey is behind the mark in this area, but among the Natural Awakeningscommunity, you will find a number of physicians and practitioners that are challenging traditional modalities and making a difference. Kudos.

These are the practitioners who approach health care by examining diet, lifestyle, genetics, epigenetics, gut bacteria, thyroid function and more. The functional philosophy looks at individual factors and never turns to drugs as a primary course of action. Rather, it is a collaborative approach that accepts the utility of conventional medicine in appropriate cases but also understands the limitations and negative consequences in others.

If you normally skim through the pages, please spend some time this month absorbing the information. I am passionate about the entire Natural Awakeningsmessage, but this one is particularly poignant and powerful for me. I have personally witnessed dramatic healing as a result of alternative care…and many from the practitioners found in the following pages.

To Your Optimal, Natural Health,

Michelle
