Thanks to The Produce Club, there’s a way to purchase nutritious, organic produce at more affordable prices. Founded by Alan Ritter, The Produce Club is a cooperative buying club that purchases food from wholesalers in South Philadelphia and distributes from Ritter’s West Collingswood kitchen.

Due to a lack of grocery overhead, the club is able to offer produce at nearly a 40 percent savings compared to everyday grocery store produce.

Most of the requested items are organic gala apples, organic celery and organic sweet potato. The club currently focuses on organic foods, but will expand to include conventional produce with demand. Additionally, wholesalers select produce each week that are odd lots or ripe and priced to move, and the club allows members to buy this produce at an even greater savings while addressing food waste.
