The 2017 Green Challenge Film Fest concludes on August 17 with a free screening of the award-winning documentary, SEED: The Untold Story, at Collingswood Community Center.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie begins at 7. Organic popcorn and a door-prize drawing are included.

“Few things on earth are as miraculous and vital as seeds–worshiped and treasured since the dawn of humankind. However, in the last century, 94 percent of seed varieties have disappeared,” notes a synopsis on the documentary’s website.

The screening’s sponsors add that 10 agrichemical companies–including Syngenta, Bayer and Monsanto–control more than 2/3 of the global seed market, and are reaping unprecedented profits.

Seed “follows passionate seed keepers who are protecting a 12,000-year-old food legacy.”

Local seed librarians Jeff Quattrone and Keith Monahan lead a discussion after the screening, which is presented by GMO Free PA and NJ, Oaklyn Green Team and Sustainable Collingswood.
