HypnoBirthing: Stress-free Moms-to-be

Starting June 22, The Sanctuary for Yoga in Medford is presenting a five-week “HypnoBirthing” series, “a relaxing and stress-free method of birthing that is based on the belief that all babies should come into the world in an atmosphere of gentility, calm and joy.”

HypnoBirthing practitioner Joanne Traynham will lead the series, which teaches participants to use their natural instincts to comfortably, peacefully, and with as little medical intervention as possible, give birth. Classes are on Thursdays nights from 6:30 to 8, June 22 through July 20.

A free “Introduction to Hypnobirthing” class will be offered at The Sanctuary for Yoga on Monday, June 12, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“HypnoBirthing embraces the belief that every woman has within her, the power to call upon her natural instincts to bring about the best possible birthing for her baby and herself,” explains Traynham, who received her training at the HypnoBirthing Institute in Fort Myers, Fla.

“Through deep relaxation and education, HypnoBirthing will prepare a woman’s mind and body for success, using such techniques as breathing and visualization. It also incorporates guidance in positive affirmations, nutrition and exercise,” she says.

“The weeks of preparation in relaxation will have a calming effect upon the babies, and the relaxation techniques learned will prove valuable throughout life. Plus, this series can be a wonderful compliment to the pre-natal yoga classes we offer,” notes Traynham, who is also available for private HypnoBirthing sessions.

Cost: $200 for the 5-week series. A series of three private sessions with Traynham is $300. Location: The Sanctuary for Yoga, 43 S. Main St. (next to Braddock's), Medford. For additional information or to register, call 609-953-7800. Also visit thesanctuaryforyoga.com.
