Natural Awakenings South Jersey

Postpartum Blues and the Adrenal System: For new moms, weakened adrenals can mean mood changes, more stretch marks, inflammation, increased blood pressure and more before, during and after pregnancy.

The adrenal glands play a significant role in postpartum issues. Sitting atop the kidneys, these glands impact everything from blood pressure to hormones. When they become exhausted, suffering can become severe in pregnant women and they are more likely to give birth to babies with weakened adrenals, causing decreased immune system function, inconsistent sleep patterns and increased susceptibility to infections.

For new moms, weakened adrenals can mean mood changes, more stretch marks, inflammation, increased blood pressure and more before, during and after pregnancy. While reducing stress levels, especially during pregnancy, can be challenging, there are natural ways to encourage adrenal health. Consuming healthy fats, high-quality proteins, drinking plenty of water and Himalayan or sea salt can help the adrenals stay strong. In addition, supplements can help fill in where nutrition is lacking.
