Free Graded Motor Imagery Seminar with Mark Butler: The practice of using focused imagery by athletes to increase performance is well known and clinical studies have shown strength gains from this practice alone.

Thermographic Diagnostic Imaging/Health Through Awareness will host a free holistic health webinar from 7 to 8 p.m., March 22, with Mark Butler, doctor of physical therapy and orthopedic clinical specialist. He will discuss graded motor imagery (GMI) for the treatment of reflex sympathetic dystrophy and other chronic pain conditions.

The practice of using focused imagery by athletes to increase performance is well known and clinical studies have shown strength gains from this practice alone. Therapists are noting promising results by applying GMI principles in treating patients with complex regional pain syndrome and other chronic pain symptoms. Butler will review the basic science behind this treatment and use a case study to demonstrate the four-stage GMI process as a successful rehabilitation intervention.

Butler has taught more than 200 weekend courses on neural mobilization, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, examination and treatment of the shoulder, cervical spine, lumbar spine, therapeutic taping and radiology. He was selected to receive the James Tucker Excellence in Clinical Practice and Teaching Award by the New Jersey chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. He currently manages the Medford NovaCare office.
