With health and wellness goals in full swing after the New Year, many of us turn to gadgets such as the Fitbit and Apple Watch to track our calories, exercise and heartrate. While these new technologies can help us stay on track with our fitness and diet goals, they do have a downside.

Independently funded studies of long-term mobile phone usage (10 years or more) have shown associations with brain tumors. The same electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) emitted from mobile phones are also emitted from fitness tracking devices. Since users are encouraged to wear these devices at night, they can also strain a person’s sleep cycle, which is the body’s most critical time for healing.

Limiting risk and exposure to EMFs is attainable and getting rid of Fitbits and Apple watches is a step in the right direction. In addition, there are reputable EMF protection devices for cell phones, laptops tablets and more are available.
