Natural Awakenings South Jersey

Letter From Publisher

Early in November, I had the honor of co-hosting a networking event with Michele Marcinko, owner of Halo Wellness Center in Marlton. We were delighted with the turnout of more than 40 holistic professionals. Among the diverse crowd were biological dentists, acupuncturists, energy healers, massage therapists, nutrition counselors, psychotherapists, and more. The positive and loving energy created by the congregation of these like-minded people is hard to describe.

This month's feature “Loving Large” by Linda Sechrist, articulates the concept from the perspective that all humanity is universally connected. Progressive scientists explain it as a shared neural, biochemical synchrony.

It’s easy to feel this sense of connection with people who share similar values, philosophies and lifestyles. It is equally as challenging to embrace a connection with those who don’t. Our instinctual response as humans is to defend our position and cling to an illusory identity rather than try to understand or connect with those that threaten it. It reinforces a psychological desire in us to be separate and unique.

But we are being called to remember that separateness is created within the constraints of human logic and reason. Cosmically, all we are is energy: little atoms and molecules of a certain configuration or vibration that create the individual but we are also a part of the unified whole. In the same article referenced above, Kamini Desai offers a beautiful metaphor describing each human as an individual wave in the singular ocean of existence. We all embody the yin/yang source of divine energy.

As you prepare for your holidays this season, make note of the “Conscious Giving” guide on page 19 and consider patronizing our local organic and holistic businesses. Personally, I am asking Santa for the Costa Rica Awakenings Retreat offered through Cape May Surf Club on pages 10 and 11.  We’ve also included great ideas for healthy holiday libations and healthy treats for the kids!

May your holidays be filled with peace, blessings, and the highest good for all humanity.
