Course Explores Small Farm Business Dream

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey (NOFA-NJ) will offer a short course, developed in cooperation with the New England Small Farm Institute (NESFI), that will help aspiring farmers learn what is required to start and manage their own profitable farm enterprise. Entitled Exploring the Small Farm Dream, the course will be held at the new Duke Farms Orientation Center, in Hillsborough, at 6 p.m. on four consecutive Monday evenings beginning November 4, and offers an optional daytime weekend farm tour.

This class will not teach technical farming skills; it will enable aspiring farmers to take the opportunity to explore their farm business ideas through facilitated independent study and to clarify their next steps. Participants will discuss current opportunities in smallscale agriculture production and processing, explore objectives, assess personal skills and financial resources, conduct preliminary market research and develop an action plan for pursuing their interests in food and farming.

Cost: $300 for NOFA-NJ members, $350 for nonmembers; scholarships are available to qualified applicants. Location: 1112 Duke Pkwy. W. For preregistration (required) and more information, call 908-371-1111 x100 or visit TinyUrl.com/NESFI-SFD.
