Township Joins Rutgers Green Purchasing Cooperative

Township Council recently approved Cherry Hill’s participating in a new green-purchasing cooperative led by Rutgers University, allowing the Township to save money while buying more eco-friendly products.

Rutgers formed the cooperative pilot program to allow municipalities, school districts and other entities to take advantage of the university’s own Green Purchasing Program, under which Rutgers secured the contracts for the bulk purchase of a number of items. By joining the cooperative, Cherry Hill will be able to purchase a greater variety of sustainable products than it has in the past, while capitalizing on Rutgers’ savings.

“These are items that our municipal offices utilize every single day,” says Mayor Bernie Platt. “And in that respect, if we realize the dual benefit of securing the greatest possible savings while consuming only the most environmentally friendly goods every day, that can only be a positive.”
