The Yoga Center Welcomes the Pink Ribbon Program

Recent studies indicate a link between moderate physical exercise and improved quality of life for breast cancer survivors. Cyndy McCormick, a registered nurse and a breast cancer post-rehab exercise specialist certified through the Pink Ribbon Program, is collaborating with the Yoga Center of Medford to present the Pink Ribbon Program for Breast Cancer Survivors.

The Pink Ribbon Program is a gentle, staged exercise program that helps breast cancer survivors recover their mobility, strength and range of motion following breast cancer surgery, no matter their fitness level, nor whether they’ve had a lumpectomy or mastectomy, recently or several years ago. Designed by exercise physiologist and educator Doreen Puglisi, MS, the program can begin when the survivor is either six weeks past surgery or has received doctor’s approval to begin gentle exercise therapy. The primary goal of the program is to give cancer survivors back their positive body image, improve their quality of life and make them feel like themselves again. Paricipation can help prevent painful and limiting post-operative problems, such as lymphedema.
