Natural Awakenings South Jersey

Now Accepting Entries for School Garden of the Year Award

Entries are being accepted for the inaugural School Garden of the Year Award, presented by Edible Jersey Magazine and the New Jersey Farm to School Network. Applicants can be any New Jersey school, grades pre-K through 12, that has had a school garden open during the 2011-2012 school year and can provide documentation through photos and video of its uses and existence. The winning garden will receive a minimum $1,000 prize during Jersey Fresh Farm-to-School Week, the last week in September. Two runner-up gardens will be awarded $250 each to be used on garden supplies.

Gardens must be in established settings, either indoor or outdoor, on school grounds. Raised beds and container gardens are acceptable. Entries will be judged by a committee of representatives of the following New Jersey organizations: Edible Jersey, Farm-to-School Network, Department of Agriculture, Nursery and Landscape Association, Rutgers Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, the Princeton School Garden Cooperative and the Alliance for Environmental Education. Applications should be submitted online by June 1 through SurveyMonkey.com/s/BQJ2M2PAPPLICATION.
